I never read the book but the animated film When the Wind Blows was brilliant and darkly comic (about as dark as you can get considering the subject matter).

Me too.

When the Wind Blows is a book that stayed with me from the first time I read it at junior school almost 40 years ago (blimey!!).

D'you know. I've not read it since. And I can still remember the fear it put in me.

That and The Snowman are books that take me back to my childhood.

I'm going to get a copy of When the Wind Blows for my daughters now. Just out of respect for the passing os a very talented man.

I will also check out Ethel and Ernest.

I loved the book When the Wind Blows when it came out in about 1983
I certainly remember someone having a copy of the Tin Pot Foreign General and the Old Iron Woman I didn't realise that was one of his.
I enjoyed the programme about him last night, which led me to watching Ethel and Ernest. I had no idea that the book and film even existed, but I sat and watched it and thought it was brilliant. As has already been said on here, it was a real teleworkers.

Still love watching The Snowman every Christmas, all time classic. I saw that doc too tanman, from what I remember he had a sad time with his first wife who had severe mental health issues.

The man is a legend. There was a TV documentary made about I dunno, about a decade ago. I saw it - what an absolute misery guts he was in real life. RIP though.
